Currently the Victorian Flying Ants are going through a rebuild phase. At the moment we have 2 boats at Blairgowrie, 1 at Sorrento, 1 at Safety Beach, 1 at Albury/Wodonga and 2 boats that are new to sailing at Sunbury and Waranga Basin that are still training but not yet racing. Things are on the way up since this time last year and hopefully it will start to snowball as the numbers get larger.
Last weekend we had 3 Ants at Waranga boat club the 2 still learning and 1 from Albury/Wodonga. Jack and Campbell McEwan sailing Envy FA553 had their first race and performed really well beating a Laser 4.7 over the line and with 1 leg to go were beating 3 laser 4.7. They will be up on the pace very shortly with a bit more practice. Peter and David Stone sailing Heart Attack FA860 went out for a practice sail on the Saturday and gained some valuable time on the water.
It is planned at this Stage that at least 5 Vic Ants will be going to the OAMPS Victorian Youth Regatta at Elwood Sailing Club 18-19 April. This is in the middle of the NSW school holidays. It would be a great help to promotion of Flying Ants if NSW could get a few Ants down to this regatta to increase the fleet and show the Victorians what they are have been missing out on. This is a high Profile Youth regatta that would be good to have on your sailing resume.
Any one interested?

G'day Daryl,

Unfortunately will not be able to get the boys to Victorian Youth Regatta as I'm working 18-19 April.

"C'arn the stones!" - Show em what you've got.

Cheers.

The National Flying Ant Assoc was unable to find a Victorian bay club to run the 2009-2010 Flying Ant Nationals so they are now going to be held at East Fremantle Yacht Club. If you would like more information about the titles please contact me.

Good news for Victoria!!!!! The National Association has approached many Melbourne Bay Clubs and it looks very promising that Chelsea Yacht Club will be the Venue for the 2010/2011 Nationals. A decision will be made very soon and I will let you all know when it happens. It will be run by the National Association made up of NSW & WA members but they will be very appreciative if they could have some assistance from local Flying Ant Owners or Ex Flying Ant Sailors.

Things are looking a lot better for the Flying Ants in Victoria with Ross Martin from Safety Beach Sailing Club has just put his kids into a Flying Ant and Parkdale Yacht Club has a Flying Ant hull that they are fixing up and may purchase another for a club boat. Colin McEwan kids have just started to race in the last half of the season. My kids are gaining more experience and feeling more comfortable in the stronger winds now. We may have another Flying Ant up in Albury/Wodonga now. Mitch Cittadini is unsure at this stage what boat he will be sailing next year but will keep the Ant and Sail it where possible.

It should not take long for the class to gain momentum in Victoria and bring it back to where it was 13 years ago. ie: 30 plus boats

I believe we should at least try and get a Victorian Team of 6 boats for the 10-11 Nationals.

So many parents approached me and my kids at the OAMPS Youth Regatta and say what a great boat the Flying Ant is. I had an International Cadet sailor bring his Mum over to the Ant and said that he wanted to sail a Flying Ant.

I have prepared a Victorian Flying Ant Owners Register. If you would like to be on the list please e-mail me.

Could you please post your thoughts or you intentions.

“The Flying Ant Associations from both WA and NSW are trying very hard to get the Victorian Association back up and running hence the interest in holding the Nationals there. The VIC Association has basically been left dormant which is a shame as it has money in the bank to fund the development of the Class.”

If you know the whereabouts of any Flying Ants (sailing or in sheds) in Victoria could you please pass my contact details on.

I have prepared this update to the best of my knowledge from a lot from rumours if any of this content is incorrect please let me know and I will amend straight away.

Regards
