Just checked out the notice of race for the 2007-2008 Flying Ant nationals. I was suprised to see how much race entry is for Flying Ants - $250 before 24/11/2007 and $290 after 24/11/2007.

For that I could enter 2 minnows in the minnow nationals and have $90 change before 24/11/2007, $130 change between 24/11/2007 and 22/12/2007 or $105 change between 22/12/2007 and nationals. Their fees are $90 for first boat and $70 for an additional boat from the same family and a late fee of $25 after 22/12/2007.

I'm not attending the Nationals so it makes no difference to me at this stage but the price does seem excessive for kids to sail. I would certainly think twice about allowing my kids to sail at this price.

Just opening this up as a matter of discussion to see if anyone else has a view on this.

Hope those attending the nationals have a great time and the competition is good.

Good Sailing

I agree the entry fee may seem excessive. The entry fee does however cover several dinners, the state breakfast and a meal at the presentation for all the competitors.
I am hoping to be involved in the organisation for 08/09 and we will try and keep it as reasonable as possible.

G'day Jim,

Thanks for replying. If the both kids are getting 4 or 5 meals that would explain the discrepancy in cost and make it a much more reasonable proposition.

Hi Col

All competitors get a T-Shirt as well.

Are any boats from Victoria planning on attending the IYC Nationals?

Another thing all participants(skipper & crew) recieve is a competitors pack, this year it contained hat, dry bag, stickers, sun screen, T shirt, radio & a few other bits and pieces.
Retail value would have been around $80 per competitor.

I know IYC have a few ants in the shed that are not sailed reqularly. Is there any move to hire out boats for the Nationals? Just an enquiry/idea.

Col

The boats in the shed need some TLC before they could be raced. There are some new kids around and some of the old boats may end up on the water next season.

If some one has a specific request for use of a boat for the nationals we may be able to accomodate them. It may not be clear which boats will be sailing till a bit later in the year.
