We have just come back from the Australia Day Regatta at Yarrawonga. I have noticed that the Ants had a great time at the rinse regatta at Jindabyne and believe that Yarrawonga's Anzac Day Regatta could match it or even be better for casual racing and family holiday after a busy racing season (and the salties can rinse their boats).
The facilities are excellent at the Yarrawonga Yacht Club with lawn powered camping sites on the waters edge at the yacht club and lots of shade. The club has all meals available plus general canteen and bar open during the regatta. The cost is reasonable at $6.50 per person per night(kids primary school age and under free).
Would anybody be interested in this regatta or is there another place the Ants meet for Anzac Day?

cheers

G'day Daryl,

How about letting everyone know how you're kids went at the Australia Day Regatta at Yarrawonga.

Start bragging a bit, I think they did a great job for their first regatta. There was a bit of interest in the "Ant" from other young people at the regatta, too.

As for Anzac Day, don't know yet but will let you know closer to the time.

"C'mon the Stones!"

Yes Col I am very pleased with the progress they are making. They are still very keen and improving every week. We had great winds this weekend. Lache out on trapeze with the mainsheet. I'm confident now that they can launch and return to shore by themselves now. They even fully derigged by themselves. I raced my boat for the first time this weekend since we've owned the Ant. Things are looking up.
Col are you going to Waranga Basin next week?
I've noticed there has been 20 views (only three are mine)of this blog but I don't think other people know how to reply.
Are there any Ant regattas on the East Coast planned for this year?
What are the major events for next year?

Hi all

I dont know if your including NSW in your question about the east coast but the NSW Youth championships will be held over 3 days on the long weekend in October. The NSW Flying Ants will generally run a two day training camp after the regatta, with 1 days break in between the regatta and the training. (usually school holidays)

I think it's at Gosford this year.

There will probably be a couple of training weekends at IYC in the first half of the 08/09 season

Jim,
Thanks.Yes I was including NSW. That sounds good when the time gets closer we will have to see if it is in the VIC school Hols. Are you going to be sailing for the ANZAC Day weekend?

cheers

Daryl

Dont know what we will be doing by then.

I am interested in trying to support the Victorian Ants.

Where is Yarrawonga and how long does it take from Wollongong ?

Jim,
Yarrawonga (Lake Mulwala) is about 6 hrs from Woolongong. It is on the NSW/Vic border not far from the Hume freeway. At this stage there could be 1 Ant from Mordialic(a very good 29er sailor with his younger brother who has just started sailing an opti), 1 from Bendigo (they probably won't be racing as they are a bit young but are very keen do have a Ant and love getting out and sailing) and my kids (just started racing) will be there from Tallangatta.
It might not seem like many but the intrest that was shown towards the Flying Ant AUST Day was good and exposure to the Sabot/Minnow sailors might be able to persuade them to change.
Could you pass on the invitation to the rest of the Ant community as it seems most the others must have friends and do not spend much time talking on the computer.

Col,
You need to get into Mick Floyd when you see him as his son is very keen on the flying ant(thinks the minnow is boring to sail).

G'day Daryl,

I'll see Tom in March at the Mozzie Vic States in Rosebud. He's crewing for his Dad and his sister is crewing for me. Should be a good regatta.

Might have to see if I can sqeeze the ant on the trailer again and Tom might take Jack for a sail or Tom and his sister might like to go for a sail.

We'll see.

Sorry about sail inland, I was working.

Col,
Had a good weekend at Waranga. The kids had a great time playing with Tom & Sara. Maybe Tom and Jack could sail together in your Ant at the Anzac Day regatta if you can make it. Good luck in the Mozzie states. We will see the floyds the 1-2 Mar at the Vic schools regatta at Elwood.

cheers

G'day Daryl,

Looks like I will be able to make it to Yarrawonga for Anzac Day Regatta. If you're going I'll see you there.
