The Victorian Flying Ants got together last weekend 19-20 Apr 08 at the Drought Buster Regatta held at Port Melbourne Yacht Club. They competed in Division 6 with boats of a VYC Yardstick of 123 and above.
We had 3 Flying Ants:
854 Insane (formally Sliced Pineapple) Mitchell Cittadini & Lachlan Sorrento Sailing & Couta Boat Club
549 Blackened Rupert Arter Blairgowrie Yacht Club
573 Excalibur Sinead & Lachlan Stone Albury/Wodonga Yacht Club

Four races were conducted with Blackened winning the first 2 races by narrow margins over Insane with Excalibur not far behind in 10 to 15kts SAT afternoon.
Race 3 Sunday in lighter winds 5kts Insane managed hold off the challenge from Blackened to win with Excalibur closing the gap on the 2 front runners in the last 2 reaches to the finish.
That set up for an exciting last race with the winner of the last race winning the VIC Ant challenge.
Race 4 Blackened and Insane match raced up the first beat with Blackend coming out in front with a good lead. Insane managed to close the gap but were unable to get in front. Excalibur had a good race again showing great downwind speed catching the top 2 at one stage but was unable to match the excellent upwind speed Insane & Blackened had.
1st Blackened
2nd Insane
3rd Excalibur
It was great to see the VIC Flying Ants racing together once again and hopefully it will be the start of greater times for the VIC Ants. We are now in preparation to take on NSW and WA in the 08/09 National Titles at IYC.
If any Ant sailors would like join our group show your interest on this forum. If we get enough interested people we may be able to start the Victorian Flying Ant Association again.

Cheers
Daryl Stone
