Flying Ant Nationals Championship 2015/16

Day 1:

Flying Ant Nationals are under way with the first day (Monday 27th) of racing complete. It was a great day of racing with 41 degrees (welcome to WA Summer!) and winds ranging from 14 to 17 knots in the afternoon. Some fantastic tussles for placings with many position changes around the course during the racing. Racing resumes on Wednesday (29th).
Don't forget the State Breakfast at 9am Wednesday (bacon and egg burgers for all) followed by the NAGM.
Racing will be subject to wind conditions - predict wind say 25+, so we'll wait and see.

Day 2:

Strong winds today with consistent 19 knots and gusting between 22 and 25 knots saw some gutsy sailing from the Flying Ant fleet. Some awesome spinnaker runs out to the start line sent the adrenaline rushing, but most of the racing was carefully controlled with few kites to be seen up on the race course. Well done to all the sailors who chose to sail a good controlled race rather than chance boat and personal risk. Some great action on the water. I'm sure Tracy will have some fantastic photos - look up her website for more from today.

Day 3:

Light winds in the morning allowing us to go out for 1 race before lunch. The afternoon racing started with light winds before shifting the sea breeze ang gusting at 24 knots. The sailors found it hard as the conditions changed quickly form lgiht to no wind to 19 knots gusting to 24. Well done as there were poistion changes and interest racing. The fleet looked great with spinnakers coming out in the heavy wind as the leaders were being chased down.

Day 4:

Medium winds today allowed us to get two races in averaging 11 - 14 knots. There was great racing on the water with top poitions changing all the time on the course. Close racing is making it interesting going into the last day with one race to follow.

Dont forget tomorrow 10:30am breakfast, lucky draws followed by on the water at 13 and evening function.

Light winds predicted.

Day 5:

Proved to be an exciting day for racing with second, third and forth places alternating. We were lucky enough to get the sea breeze in allowing for the last race to have 13 knots on the water. Final race was under way and top boats were Viper 1st, Ants Pants 2nd follwed by Speed Demon.

A huge thank you to our sponsors: MonkeyFist, Coretex, Boating Hardware, Alcoa and City of Rockingham.

Thank you to the volunteers on the water and off, without you the regatta would not be a success.

Thank you to NSW for coming across and enjoy the wind WA has to offer.
